Currently Silvitech is assisting the development of a power planning suite for the Energy Sector, in conjunction with Cap Gemini and AspenTech to market and define a packaged software based Power Plant Portfolio Optimization methods. The software will assist the following industry sectors in several levels of compliance as well as reducing costs and increasing profits.
ISO's
ISO's (Independent Service Operators), provide the infrastructure to allow the de-regulated markets to operate in a fair and equitable manner. They are essentially ‘not-for-profit' and receive ‘commissions' from their market participants.
Market Participants – De-regulated Markets
Within the ISO environment, the individual participants, generators, operate either in a Day-Ahead-Market (PJM) or an Intra-Day-Market (ERCOT). Their single goal is to make a profit.
Market Participants – Regulated Markets
Regulated markets are dominated by major utilities such as, Southern Company, TVA etc. These entities are decreasing in number across the world as markets de-regulate, unusual in this is the USA , where a small, but significant number of regulated utilities still exist. These entities typically are supported by major political affiliations / power bases, in the regions that they serve.
Trading Entities
Trading activities fall into a number of categories, the main definitions of traders, within the energy markets, are short and long-term traders.
